Dr. Dennis Coyle is Associate Professor and former Chair of the Department of Politics at the Catholic University of America, and a fellow with the Institute for Human Ecology. He received his PhD and MA degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and his BA from the University of Connecticut. He was an invited researcher at the School of Philosophy of Catholic University of Paris in 2021-2022 and has held visiting appointments in France at Sciences Po in Lille, Bordeaux and Paris/Reims, and in the United States at the American Enterprise Institute (with Michael Novak), the Center for Study of Public Choice (with James Buchanan), and the Social Philosophy and Policy Center (with Ellen Frankel Paul, Jeffrey Paul and Fred Miller). He was also an associate editor on the foreign desk of the Washington Post (part-time) from 1990-2008. Dr. Coyle's research and teaching interests include French and American political philosophy and political culture, liberal democracy and constitutionalism, Catholic social thought, constitutional law, and generally the interplay of institutions, culture, and values in politics, policy, and law. He is the author and editor of books on constitutional property rights, regulation and political culture, and is currently working on a book on French philosophy, liberalism and the crisis of the West. His articles and commentaries have appeared in a variety of academic and opinion journals and newspapers including The Washington Post, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, The Public Interest, Catholic University Law Review, National Review Online and other publications. He has been interviewed on ABC, the Voice of America, and several radio outlets.
