Application Questions

  • Question Who Can Participate To The Summer School?
    Response

    Sciences Po Lille’s Summer School is open to International students from around the world, students from Partner Universities and Sciences Po Lille students. And in particular to students currently enrolled in an accredited college/university. They can be:

    1. Undergraduate students: mandatory “European Affairs background”
    2. Postgraduate students: GPA 2.5 or above
    3. Students selected by a partner University of Sciences Po.

  • Question When Is The Application Deadline? And How To Apply?

    Registration begins on Monday 30 January and closed on Monday 15 May 2018.

    Students who want to participate in the Summer School have to complete their enrollment procedure online on our website

  • Question Duration and Dates
    Response

    The Summer School lasts 4 weeks. The arrival day is on Monday 25 June 2018 but it is not compulsory to arrive at this date. The classes start on Tuesday 26, but the accommodation is booked from June 24.

    The last day of courses is Friday 17 July 2018.

  • Question What if I need to change information submitted in my application?

    If you submitted information that needs to be changed or corrected, please email your full legal name and the changes needed to be rectified to summerschool@sciencespo-lille.eu

Class Questions

  • Question What is the theme of Sciences Po Summer School?
    Response

    The 2018 Summer School proposes an innovative programme around 2 tracks:

    -          International - EU Affairs

    -          French Language & Society 

    All of the Summer School’s classes are taught in English.

  • Question Are there any Language Requirements?
    Response

    Yes, students will be required to prove their English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT (a score of 80 or above)/ IELTS (a score of 6.5 or above), 685 TOEIC or other materials proving a corresponding level of English. (Not applicable for native English-speakers and students attending English taught courses in their home university).

  • Question Will I receive a Certificate at the end of the Summer School?

    Participants will receive a certificate with 3 credits for International - EU Affairs and 3 credits for French Language and Society

    At the end of the Summer School participants will receive a certificate with a total of 6 ECTS credits (for 2 tracks).

  • Question How large is a typical class?
    Response

    The number of spots available to participate in the Summer School are limited.

    There is a maximum of 40 spots available. Most of the modules will thus welcome around 20 students.

  • Question How many classes can I take?
    Response

    Students have to choose this courses if they take the track "international-EU Affairs".

    If they take the track "French language and Society", students can follow a French class which will carry out from 9.0 am to 10:30 am and French civilsation in the afternoon.

  • Question French Language and Society
    Response

    Regarding the French language courses, they welcome students at every level of French language learning, from complete beginners (Level A0) to the advanced (Level C1).

    This module, "French language and Society"  will provide the student with 3 ECTS credit.

  • Question Can I change courses?
    Response

    No, students can’t change the courses that they have chosen.

  • Question What happens if the course(s) I want to take are full?
    Response

    You should only have to apply for your afternoon’s 1st choice course(s). If the course for which you apply is full, you will be contacted by our office and asked if you would like to apply for an alternative one. The best way to avoid being shut out of a course is to complete your application as early as possible.

  • Question What happens if the course(s) I want to take are cancelled?
    Response

    Sometimes, a course is cancelled if the instructor can no longer teach the class or because an insufficient number of students have enrolled for a class. If you apply for this course, you will be contacted by our office and asked if you would like to apply for an alternative course. If you have already been registered for a course that is subsequently cancelled, you will be notified by our office, and, if you do not wish to take another course in its place, your tuition deposit will be returned to you.

  • Question When will I receive the Summer School schedule?

    The Summer School schedule is already present on the website.

Housing Questions Summer school

  • Question How do I apply for housing?
    Response

    An accommodation in a hostel has already been booked and is included in the total price (650 euros).

  • Question When and Where can I move in?
    Response

    During their stay, students will housed in the hostel Gastama.

    Accomodation is available from the arrival day, Sunday 24 June 2018.

    This hostel is located in Vieux Lille, the quaint Old Lille neighborhood, 109, rue de Saint André - 59000 Lille.

    Student have to move out on Friday 18 July 2018.

  • Question Can I request a specific roommate?
    Response

    No you can’t decide your roommates but the students of the Summer School have reserved for them 5 dormitories with 6 beds to each dorm. They are not mix up with other students in the hostel.

Arrival Questions

  • Question What I have to prepare before my arrival?
    Response

    Students enrolled to the Summer School have to provide for:

    • Visa and passport information. To enter France you must have a valid passport or if you are an European Student, your identity card is enough. Most of the international students enrolled in the Summer Session will obtain a Visa C Courte durée MULTI.
    • Health and Travel Insurance. In order to participate in the Summer School, students are required to have valid individual or university insurance covering them for medical expenses + travel and repatriation.

  • Question How much pocket money should I have?
    Response

    Although spending habits fluctuate widely, it is safe to estimate a minimum budget of €650 per month in order to have a reasonable standard of living.

    Some examples of prices:

    • €1,70 Public transportation (1 ticket)
    • €60 Round trip train ticket Paris-Lyon with a 12-25 train pass
    • €3,50 Sandwich at a take-away place
    • €12 Meal at a pizzeria
    • €9,50 Movie ticket

  • Question Will I have the time for additional travel?
    Response

    Yes, the summer school programme includes 3 organized trips:

    On the June 25th the visit of Lille

    On the July 6th the trip to Paris (optional)

    On the July 13th the trip to Brussels

    Sciences Po Lille will also propose to students some conferences, visit of museum and cooking classes (optional)...

Financial Questions

  • Question What will be my total bill?

    Prices :

    • International student: 2000 € Tuition fee+ 650 Accommodation+ 50 Non refundable Application fee
    • Sciences Po Lille student: 1200 € Tuition+ 55 Non refundable Application fee

  • Question When and how do I pay my bill?

    Your registration will be considered as valid only after your payment.

    Payment of the fees has to be done at the time of submitting your application.

    Payment can be made online on our bank’s secure internet banking.

  • Question Refund policy
    Response

    The application and accommodation fees are non-refundable.

    Students who want to cancel their application must send us, an email before June 1st. In this case, they will get 50% of the tuition fee back, minus the related bank charges in case of a bank postal money order.

  • Question Are scholarships or financial aid available?
    Response

    Unfortunately not, all students are required to submit the application fee.
